2-Day Lesotho and Sani Pass Itinerary
Day 1 – Durban, Sani Pass and the Lesotho Highlands
We collect you in Durban and travel towards the southern Drakensberg before changing to the 4×4 mountain route up Sani Pass. After completing the border formalities, the journey continues into Lesotho’s high-altitude landscape.
A picnic lunch is provided on the way to a local community, where a group of Basotho women may perform traditional dances and music. When available, local shepherds may also share their own dances and instruments. These are community encounters, so the precise experience depends on who is present that day.
We continue through the highlands to a village area, with time for a short walk or informal visit before settling into a comfortable local B&B. Dinner and overnight accommodation are included.
Day 2 – Guided Village Walk and Return to Durban
After breakfast, we return to the community meeting point for an approximately two-hour guided walk through a living village. The experience is informal and changes every time. You may meet people working outside their homes, be invited into a house, taste traditionally brewed beer or visit a school when it is open and appropriate.
The value is in meeting people naturally and learning about daily life rather than following a rehearsed display. Your guide helps with communication, context and respectful interaction throughout the visit.
After the village experience, we travel to the highest pub in Africa for an included lunch. We then descend Sani Pass by 4×4 and return to Durban.
